Writer's Market Review

The most recent copy of Writer's Market can be one of the most valuable tools for a freelance writer. You'll learn about possible markets for your work, writing query letters, getting an agent and more.

This book is not as cheap as you might hope, but at up to $49.99 as of this writing, depending on where you buy it, this resource is still well worth the cost for the benefit your freelance writing career will get from it. There is also a website for Writer's Market that offers your choice of an annual or monthly subscription.

Writer's Market has been around since 1921. It is probably the best established resource for writing jobs you can find. Buying the book gets you access to the website for a year, giving you the advantage of being able to search the website's regularly updated information or go through the book when you don't have an internet connection.

Don't buy a previous year's version. You do want the most current information possible. Contact information changes regularly and you don't want to waste your time trying to reach companies at incorrect addresses or trying to reach someone who left the company a year ago.

All the basic information you need as an article writer is in this guide:

You'll also get great practical advice, such as deciding how much you should charge and how to write query letters. You'll save yourself a lot of effort by going over this book carefully.

Once you've tried this book it's likely to make your annual purchase list. Some of you will prefer the website, but I have found there can be advantages to books. There are just times when flipping through a book is easier. Since the book gives you access to the website, buying the book is certainly worth your while.

I strongly recommend buying Writer's Market immediately to give your freelance writing career the best start you can.
